Huddersfield Man Busted for Stirring Racial Hatred and Terror Links
Steven Donovan, from Baker Street, last month admitted to a string of serious offences, including stirring up racial hatred, spreading terrorist material, and carrying a knife. But that’s not all – he was also found guilty of owning racially inflammatory content and extreme pornography.
Hate Stickers Spark Counter-Terror Probe
Back in May 2020, a PCSO on routine patrol spotted a load of hate stickers and graffiti around Greenhead Park in Huddersfield. Alarm bells rang, triggering an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.
Digging deeper, cops discovered Donovan had been sharing far-right extremist material online. The net finally closed on him in June 2020 when he was arrested, with charges following in August 2021.
Police Chief Issues Stark Warning
Detective Chief Superintendent Jim Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, slammed Donovan’s actions:
“Communities in West Yorkshire work tirelessly alongside agencies such as the police to ensure our towns and cities are welcoming and inclusive to people of all backgrounds.
Those that seek to bring hatred to our communities and disrupt cohesion through criminal activities will be tracked down and brought before the courts.
We must stand together by challenging hateful extremist attitudes and trusting our instincts by reporting concerning or suspicious behaviour to the police.”
Donovan’s case is a sharp reminder that hate crime and extremism will not be tolerated in West Yorkshire.
