Brutal Attack Over Lockdown Argument Lands Man in Jail for 12 Years
Man Smashes Partner’s Head with Metal Bowl
Christopher Brand, 57, was locked up today at Bristol Crown Court after a jury found him guilty of viciously attacking his partner. The horrific assault happened on 17 March, during a midday row about the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.
Brand, who had been drinking a bottle of wine, grabbed a heavy brass bowl and hit the woman over the head. She suffered multiple deep cuts and lost a dangerous amount of blood.
Heroic Neighbours Save Woman’s Life
Bleeding heavily, the victim fled to nearby neighbours who sprang into action. They called emergency services and gave first aid before she was rushed to hospital. Doctors stitched her up with 30 stitches and warned she narrowly escaped permanent brain damage or worse.
Brand Tried to Cover Up But Caught
After the attack, Brand attempted to clean the crime scene and hide his bloodied clothes, but his efforts failed. Police arrested him and he was hauled through the courts where forensic evidence sealed his fate.
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with an additional three years on licence. An indefinite restraining order bans him from contacting the victim or her daughter.
Police Praise Courage and Community Spirit
“Christopher Brand has shown no remorse for his vicious attack,” said Detective Constable Harvey Ahern. “Thanks to the neighbours’ quick thinking and vital forensic evidence, a violent abuser is now behind bars.”
Detective Constable David Allan added, “The victim’s bravery in speaking out is truly inspiring. We encourage anyone suffering abuse to reach out – you don’t have to suffer in silence.”
