Tragic Birthday Outing Ends in Fatal Punch Outside Manchester Printworks
Kevin Wood, 60, was enjoying a night out celebrating his wife Debbie’s birthday when disaster struck. Outside the Printworks on Dantzic Street, city centre Manchester, Kevin was randomly punched by 23-year-old Callum Crosbie from Newcastle. The single blow left Kevin dead at the scene.
Night of Chaos Ends in Tragedy
Kevin arrived shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, hoping for a relaxed birthday meal with his wife. Instead, he found himself caught amid a violent disturbance. Security had ejected Crosbie and his friends from O’Neills bar for refusing to move from a table. When staff blocked them re-entering Printworks, Crosbie turned aggressive, kicking and hitting security before landing a fatal punch to Kevin’s face as he attempted to intervene.
Despite emergency services’ efforts to save him, Kevin was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m. Kevin’s friends, Kevin Doherty and Alan Foster—also involved in the brawl—were jailed for four months for affray.
Wife’s Heartbreaking Plea: “These Assaults Must Stop”
“Kevin was my soulmate, best friend, and husband all in one,” Debbie Wood said. “He had a fantastic sense of humour and gave us everything we ever wanted. One punch changed all our lives forever.”
“I wake up every day expecting him to walk through the door. It’s heartbreaking to think a night out for a birthday meal ended like this. I urge anyone thinking about throwing a punch to stop—it could destroy lives.”
“Kevin had just beaten prostate cancer and spent the day fixing a leak at home. We changed plans that night and stayed in Manchester instead of Middleton—I regret that every day.
“Our daughter won’t have her father to share life’s milestones, and we’ll never see him walk her down the aisle. This senseless violence must end.”
Crosbie Sentenced to Seven Years for Manslaughter
Callum Crosbie was sentenced today at Manchester Crown Court to seven years in prison for manslaughter. The court heard he also tested positive for cocaine at the time and was convicted for possession.
Detective Inspector Mark Davis, leading the investigation, said: “Kevin was an innocent bystander who lost his life in the most tragic way. The security guards were simply doing their jobs.”
“This case is a stark reminder that one punch can be deadly. Sadly, Kevin is one of many victims of such violence. Crosbie now faces time behind bars to reflect on the devastation he caused—leaving not just Kevin’s family shattered, but his own as well.”
