Oxford Night Buses Make a Comeback for Weekend Revellers
Oxford’s night bus services are back on Fridays and Saturdays, just in time for a lively night out or for those grinding through late shifts. These routes make evenings out cheaper and boost the city’s Rediscover Oxford campaign, aiming to lure more visitors back to town.
Services Return After Pandemic Pause
The night buses were paused during the pandemic but are now returning as COVID-19 restrictions ease. The NX2 runs between Oxford and Didcot Parkway, stopping at Steventon, Abingdon, Great Western Park, and Didcot town centre. Buses leave Oxford’s St Aldates, stop H1, and return from Didcot Parkway, stop R1, perfectly timed to meet late-night trains from London.
The NX40 links Oxford with Wallingford. Passengers can use season tickets, key cards, or return tickets on these night services.
Phil Southall: “Vital Service for Night Owls and Shift Workers”
“We are pleased to announce the return of our night buses to coincide with the returning night-time economy. They form a vital service for people and we look forward to welcoming passengers back on-board,” said Phil Southall, Thames Travel’s Managing Director.
“They are great value for money and popular with people enjoying nights out and shift workers.”
Plan Your Trip and Stay Safe
The NX2 was first launched in 2018 through a partnership between Thames Travel and Taylor Wimpey to improve links to Great Western Park and Didcot.
Passengers are urged to check the Thames Travel website for full timetables and updates. Thorough hygiene and cleaning measures remain in place across the Thames Travel fleet to keep riders safe.
