Fatal Punch Outside Manchester Printworks
Kevin Wood, 60, was fatally punched outside the Printworks on Dantzic Street, Manchester, last November. The attacker, 23-year-old Callum Crosbie from Newcastle, delivered a deadly blow that ended Kevin’s life during what should have been a birthday celebration.
Unprovoked Attack Sparks Chaos
Kevin had arrived shortly after 8pm on Saturday 20 November to celebrate his wife Debbie’s birthday with a meal at the Printworks. But outside the venue, trouble was brewing. Crosbie and his mates had been kicked out of O’Neills bar for refusing to leave their table. Angry and high on cocaine, Crosbie lashed out violently at security staff blocking their re-entry.
While security managed the situation, Crosbie suddenly swung a punch at Kevin’s face as he tried to intervene. Kevin collapsed to the ground and, despite attempts to resuscitate him, was pronounced dead on the scene just after 9pm.
Family Left Shattered by One Brutal Blow
Debbie Wood, Kevin’s wife of 38 years, remains devastated. “Kevin was a hardworking man full of humour,” she said. “He was my soul mate, best friend and husband all in one. I wake up every day hoping it’s a nightmare and he’ll come home.”
She urged the public to think twice before throwing punches. “You have no idea the damage one punch can do. It’s heartbreaking – my daughter has lost her dad forever.”
Justice Served: Seven-Year Sentence for Manslaughter
After a thorough investigation by GMP’s Major Incident Team, Crosbie was sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court on 10 June. He had tested positive for cocaine and was also sentenced for possession.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Mark Davis said: “This tragic incident has devastated two families. One fatal punch ended Kevin’s life while he was simply trying to help. It’s a harsh reminder how a single act of violence can ruin lives.”
Crosbie will now spend years behind bars, reflecting on the irreversible harm caused. Meanwhile, Kevin’s family is left mourning a man taken too soon, in the most senseless attack imaginable.
