Gunfire Shakes Hastings Neighbourhood – One Arrest Made
Chaos erupted around 7.10pm on Theaklen Drive as police received multiple reports of shots fired at a vehicle. Moments later, reports surfaced of a man armed with a firearm at nearby Churchill Court on Stonehouse Drive.
Armed Police Launch Rapid Response
Specialist officers swooped in from neighbouring forces, backed by the National Police Air Service helicopter. Their quick action aimed to protect the public and contain the threat. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Suspect in Custody with Firearm Seized
A man was arrested at the scene, with a firearm recovered. He remains in police custody as inquiries continue.
Due to the nature of the reports we received, it was imperative that we responded accordingly, including calling on our neighbouring forces for support,” said Hastings Command Chief Inspector Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera.
“I can confirm this is not a terror-related incident. We understand the community will be concerned, and police presence in the area will remain high.”
