Hackney Man Jailed for Rape After Violent Encounter in Alleyway

Kevin Lloyd Williams, 45, from Hackney, was locked up for 10 years after a jury at Wood Green Crown Court found him guilty of two counts of rape. The verdict came down on Monday, 20 February.

Terrifying Attack After Innocent Shopping Trip

The court heard the victim, a woman in her 40s, went to a supermarket on Upper Clapton Road in the early hours of 1 May 2022. Inside, she bumped into Williams, whom she’d known for years. They bought drinks with the intention of sharing them, but things quickly took a dark turn.

Williams declared his romantic and sexual interest, but the woman rejected him, explaining she already had a partner. As she tried to leave near Rossington Street, E5, Williams blocked her exit and trapped her in an alleyway.

He smoked from a drug pipe before violently hitting her and forcing sex upon her. Afterwards, he demanded money.

Desperate Escape and Reluctant Help

The woman convinced Williams she needed cash from a nearby shop’s ATM. Once inside, she begged staff for help, but they hesitated to call the police. She managed to get home and immediately reported the crime.

Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery, Calls for More Reporting

Detective Sergeant Else Dierick of the Met’s Central East Command said: “Kevin Williams is a predatory offender. A simple grocery trip should never turn into terror. The victim showed incredible strength by reporting this and seeing it through to trial, ensuring justice was served.”

“I also thank the two members of the public who heard the attack and supported the prosecution by testifying in court. We are committed to protecting women and girls from offenders like Williams and will not be deterred.”

Anyone who has suffered rape or sexual assault is urged to report it to police immediately for support and medical care.
