After the attack, O’Rourke walked away from the scene, showing a chilling smirk, as witnesses rushed to help Rocky. Emergency services including London’s Air Ambulance arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Rocky died on the spot from his wounds.
Investigation and Arrests
- The Met’s Specialist Crime Command launched a murder probe immediately.
- O’Rourke was arrested on 16 November and charged the next day.
- His brother, Jason O’Rourke, 34, was also arrested and charged with assisting an offender but died in custody.

Family Heartbreak: A Father Taken Too Soon
Rocky’s family released a powerful statement revealing their devastation:
“Rocky was a brother, son, uncle, and above all, a loving father to his 16-year-old daughter. We spent cherished moments in Southwark Park, making its violent end all the more heartbreaking.”
“The days before the arrests were unbearable – sleepless nights, worry, and shock when CCTV footage initially didn’t reveal the killer’s identity.”
“Rocky was a gentle giant with a heart of gold, a joker with courage and a carefree spirit. His loss has left us shattered, struggling with the pain every day.”
“Two years waiting for justice have only deepened our anguish. There will be no closure for us; this is our worst nightmare that we can never wake from.”
Rocky’s tragic death has left a void in the community and his family that words cannot capture. The hunt for justice continues as O’Rourke faces sentencing.
