Fugitive Engineer Jailed for Sickening Sex Crimes on Minor
Jason Reddy, 56, an engineer from Hastings, has been hit with a four-year jail sentence after being found guilty of horrific sexual offences against a child. Despite escaping before his trial, the court convicted him in absentia and now police are hunting him down.
Shocking Abuse Uncovered in Hastings Home
Reddy was arrested after cops launched an investigation into a report that a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at a property on Hillside Road, Hastings back in June 2018. When police seized and searched his electronic devices, they uncovered videos showing minors under 18 in the shower at the same address.
Convicted but on the Run
- Reddy faced charges of sexual assault on a child under 13 and two counts of voyeurism.
- He was initially granted bail but vanished before trial.
- He was convicted without being present and sentenced to three years for sexual assault plus 12 months for voyeurism, to run consecutively.
Police Plea to Find Jason Reddy
Detective Sergeant Kelly Yates vowed to keep pursuing the fugitive. “We will continue to prosecute sexual offenders, even if they are at large,” she said. “When he’s found, he will be made to serve his sentence.”
She also praised the brave victim: “Her courage in coming forward helped us secure this conviction and uncover further crimes.”
