Gunshot Kills Man in Harlington: Tragic Mistake or Something More?

A violent night in Harlington ended in tragedy when 28-year-old Mohamed Muhyidin was fatally shot while sitting in a car outside flats on High Street. The shocking killing unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, 31 October 2021, and has left the local community reeling.

Accidental Gunfire or Planned Attack?

Detective Inspector Lucy Carberry of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command revealed the chilling details at Isleworth Crown Court. Mohamed was killed by his associate Chiragh Chiragh, who was armed with a sub-machine gun.

“It is accepted that Chiragh accidentally discharged the firearm as both men were inside a car. What they were doing in this car remains up for debate, although any plans were soon derailed by the shooting,” DI Carberry said.

Following the shooting, Mohamed’s body was dumped by the roadside in Sipson Lane, Harlington, and the car was set on fire as an apparent attempt to cover up the crime. A passing taxi driver later discovered Mohamed’s body and raised the alarm.

Drugs, Guns, and a Fatal Fallout

  • On the night before the shooting, Chiragh, Mohamed, Mohammed Shakeel, and a 17-year-old male were gathering at a flat reportedly used as a drug-dealing base.
  • An argument earlier that evening led Shakeel to brandish an imitation firearm, stirring tension among the group.
  • Chiragh was seen carrying a sub-machine gun, while Shakeel reportedly kept hold of the imitation pistol.
  • At about 4.45am, Chiragh joined Mohamed in the car, then fired the weapon, fatally wounding Mohamed.

Chiragh later ditched the gun silencer nearby and fired the weapon several more times. After dumping Mohamed’s body, he abandoned and torched the car in West Drayton, near the 17-year-old’s home.

Justice Served: Convictions After Crime Spree

The trial concluded on Friday, 18 November, with serious consequences for those involved:

  • Chiragh Chiragh, 39, was found guilty of manslaughter and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, alongside earlier pleas of prohibited weapon possession and perverting justice.
  • Mohammed Shakeel, 29, was convicted of perverting the course of justice. He had previously pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.
  • A 17-year-old male pleaded guilty earlier to perverting the course of justice.

Sentencing for all three is scheduled for 10 February at Isleworth Crown Court.

“Chiragh may not have intended to harm Mohamed, but it is clear they were intent on causing harm that day,” DI Carberry stated. “All played their part in this tragic story and have rightly faced the consequences.”

Mohamed’s family have attended court every day for seven weeks, hearing the grim details. They have been praised for their strength and calm during this painful ordeal, with hopes that the verdicts bring some closure.
