Dartford Crossing East Tunnel Shuts for CCTV Upgrade
The eastbound tunnel of the Dartford Crossing is set for a four-week closure from Monday, February 5 to Friday, March 1. The shutdown, mostly overnight on weekdays, is to upgrade critical CCTV systems that monitor traffic and keep drivers safe.
Nighttime Closures and Key Diversions
- Eastbound tunnel closed 10pm–5am, Monday to Friday
- Sundays see closures from 10:30pm to 5:30am
- Westbound tunnel shuts overnight Saturdays, 10pm–5am
- QEII Bridge closed from 10pm Feb 24 to 5am Feb 25
During the QEII Bridge closure, a contraflow diversion will divert southbound A282 traffic through the east-bore tunnel. The west-bore tunnel will stay accessible for northbound traffic.
Important Info for High-Sided Vehicles
- Vehicles under 4.8m (15’9”) rerouted via west-bore tunnel when eastbound closed
- Heights 4.8m to 5.0m (15’9”–16’6”) diverted onto M25 clockwise
- West-bore tunnel closures mean vehicles use east-bore tunnel instead
- During QEII Bridge shutdown, southbound drivers go through east-bore
Drivers are urged to plan ahead, especially goods and high vehicles, to avoid delays and keep the roads safe while vital upgrades take place.
