Daylight Knife Horror: Man Found Guilty of Brutal Park Murder in East London
Stabbing Shocker in Broad Daylight
A 29-year-old man has been convicted of murder following a savage stabbing in an East London park in broad daylight. Yasin Omar Amare, from Penge, was found guilty of murdering Gleb Stanislavovitch Zhebrovsky — known as Gleb Stalnoy — after a re-trial at the Old Bailey on Monday, 10 August.
The jury had failed to reach a verdict in the original trial back in December 2019. Sentencing will be handed down at a later date.
From Barbershop Chat to Fatal Attack
The court heard that Amare and Gleb knew each other through a mutual acquaintance but tensions had escalated in the days before the deadly incident.
On the morning of 15 June 2019, after a trip to the barbers, Gleb received a text from Amare. Gleb told a friend he wanted to settle issues with him. The two men went to Ellesmere Street, where Amare was staying, and spoke briefly through a flat’s open window.
Amare then invited Gleb to meet in a nearby park on Lansbury Estate. Gleb and his friend sat chatting on the grass, unaware of the danger ahead.
Sudden and Savage Knife Attack
At around 2pm, Amare arrived with another man and launched a brutal knife attack. Gleb was stabbed three times in seconds, collapsing to the ground.
Amare fled the scene, returned to the flat, then tried to escape via DLR and train to Croydon. Emergency services rushed to the park, but Gleb died at 14:37hrs despite their efforts.
Manhunt and Justice Served
- Detectives quickly named Amare as the prime suspect.
- He was found hiding in a Thornton Heath hotel and arrested.
- Initially denying involvement, Amare later refused to answer further questions.
- But eyewitness accounts, CCTV footage, and phone data firmly placed him at the scene carrying out the vicious attack.
Detective Inspector Tom Williams said: “This was a brutal and clinical attack, carried out in broad daylight in a public place, that left Gleb with little chance of survival. Witnesses said he was relaxed moments before — which shows how sudden and ferocious the assault was.
“While the exact motive remains unclear, it’s obvious Amare came armed to seriously harm Gleb. I’m glad justice has been served and Amare will face significant jail time.”
