Knife attacker jailed for nearly three years after stabbing in Ryde
Man stabbed in Oak Vale attack
Police rushed to Oak Vale at 3.31pm on Friday 27 May after a man in his 20s was stabbed in the torso. The victim was taken to hospital but released shortly after, surviving the ordeal.
William Kulik charged and pleads guilty
23-year-old William Kulik, from Mayfield Road, Ryde, was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He admitted the charge at Isle of Wight Crown Court on 5 July.
During a further court appearance on 31 October, Kulik pled guilty to additional offences including affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of a knife. These relate to a separate January incident outside Fever nightclub where a man was repeatedly punched and kicked.
Kulik sentenced to 35 months
Yesterday (Thursday 3 November), the court sentenced Kulik to 35 months in prison for all offences combined.
“Carrying a knife will simply never be tolerated by police,” said Detective Sergeant Tom Kenney. “Picking up a bladed weapon puts lives at serious risk. The victim survived, but the outcome could have been catastrophic. We continue working proactively to remove weapons from our streets and urge anyone thinking of carrying a knife to think again – the consequences are severe.”
Others also sentenced over nightclub violence
Three other men involved in the January 15 attack outside Fever nightclub have also been sentenced:
- Curtis Jenkins, 24, of Church Road, Wootton
- Adam Sills, 24, of Alexandra Road, Ryde
- Ashley Chamberlain, 23, of Arthur Moody Drive, Carisbrooke
All pleaded guilty to affray on 27 September and received 17-week suspended sentences at Magistrates’ Court on 21 October.
