Pervert Spends 16 Months Behind Bars for Multiple Train Attacks in South-East London

Serial Offender Exposed Himself Ten Times on Trains

James Gathercole, 36, of Beckenham Road, Beckenham, has been found guilty of ten counts of indecent exposure. The offences happened between December 2020 and November 2021 on trains across South-East London.

Quick Police Response Leads to Arrest

The disgusting acts came to an end on 29 November when a distressed teenage girl confronted an off-duty Met Police officer after Gathercole exposed himself at New Cross station. British Transport Police swooped in and arrested him on the spot, remanding him in custody.

Shocking Six Offences in One Day

The court revealed a horrifying pattern: on 7 August 2021 alone, Gathercole committed six separate offences. He targeted young women and teenage girls on trains running between New Cross Gate, Lewisham, and Sydenham stations.

Detective Condemns Gathercole’s ‘Persistent and Sickening’ Crimes

“It’s clear from Gathercole’s persistent and sickening actions that he is a danger to women and girls,” said British Transport Police Detective Constable Sonja Lucas. “After a rigorous investigation, this serial offender is no longer free to travel on the railway network. No one should have to suffer such vile behaviour while travelling.”

Gathercole was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to 16 months in jail and must sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. The case highlights the importance of swift police action against sexual predators on public transport.
