Drive-By Shooter Banged Up for Eight Years After Terrifying Attack in Wood Green
Alexander Kufour-Boateng, 29, of Linley Road, N17, was slammed with an eight-year prison sentence at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, 22 March. The charge? His role in a chilling drive-by shooting that left a man wounded and London bus passengers lucky to escape harm.
Guilty of Dangerous Driving and Gun Possession
Kufour-Boateng had already been found guilty on 25 January of driving dangerously, helping an offender, and possessing a firearm. The court heard how the terrifying incident unfolded on 25 January 2020, at 6:47pm on Wood Green High Road.
Police and London Ambulance rushed to the scene where a VW Golf, sporting false plates, was tracked speeding down Whymark Avenue, N22. Shots were fired from the car at a man standing by the pavement near the High Road junction before the vehicle fled.
Innocent Bystanders Nearly Caught in Crossfire
A 28-year-old victim was hit by a bullet in the leg, but the drama didn’t end there. The same bullet shot through the rear window of a passing Route W4 bus, nearly striking passengers seated at the back. Miraculously, no one else was injured.
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command’s Trident unit launched a swift investigation. Kufour-Boateng was identified as the VW driver and arrested on 20 December 2021. Though it’s confirmed the gun was fired from the car, who actually pulled the trigger remains unknown.
Met Detective Warns of Gun Crime Dangers
Detective Sergeant Michael Clinch, leading the probe, said: “It was pure luck nobody on the bus was hurt. This could have easily been a murder investigation.
“I’m relieved Kufour-Boateng is off the streets for a significant time. I urge anyone with information on illegal guns to come forward. We need public help to stop this scourge.”
