Predator Gary Edge dodges jail but faces 10 years on Sex Offender Register
Edge handed suspended sentence and rehab orders
Gary Edge, 46, from Warminster, was sentenced to eight months in prison — suspended for two years — at Salisbury Crown Court. He must complete a six-month alcohol treatment programme and 20 days of rehabilitation activities. Edge also faces a £156 victim surcharge.
Decade-long restrictions imposed
Edge has been slapped with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will stay on the Sex Offender Register for the same period.
Hunter caught in police sting
Wiltshire Police launched an investigation after receiving reports that, between March and May last year, Edge was messaging who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. Unbeknownst to him, the ‘girl’ was an adult decoy.
Even after being told she was just 14, Edge continued trying to engage in sexual chat. He was arrested in June 2022 and charged soon after.
Police vow to protect children
DS Sam Hopkinson said: “I’m pleased Edge has been sentenced and is banned from contacting children for the next decade.”
“Wiltshire Police is fully committed to protecting children from sexual abuse. While thankfully there was no victim in this case, I urge anyone affected by sexual offences to come forward. Our officers treat everyone with sensitivity and compassion.”
“If you suspect a child may be at risk, please report it immediately. Visit Wiltshire Police’s child abuse advice page for more information.”
