Driver Rams Police Car in Dramatic Escape Attempt
Zeeshan Ellam, 26, was spotted behind the wheel of a silver Peugeot 308 at around 11am on Friday, 15 September last year, on Constable Road, St Ives.
Ellam made a sharp left into Rubens Way and reversed into a parking space. But when police moved in and switched on their blue lights, Ellam didn’t stop.
Collision Sparks Chaotic Getaway
Ellam rammed the police car head-on before making a daring escape. He sped through a car park, smashed through a small fence, and hurtled over a footpath onto Reynolds Way.
The crash caused over £2,000 worth of damage to the police vehicle.
Car Found Days Later, Ellam Surrenders
Authorities found Ellam’s Peugeot three days later, on Monday, 18 September, abandoned in Wyton. Ellam handed himself in at Thorpe Wood Police Station, Peterborough, on 29 September, knowing he was wanted for prison recall.
Prison Sentence and Driving Ban
Yesterday (27 March), Cambridge Crown Court sentenced Ellam, currently held at HMP Five Wells, Wellingborough, to 16 months behind bars. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and criminal damage.
Ellam was also disqualified from driving for four years and must pass an extended re-test before he can legally get back on the road.
