Bradley Ward Jailed for Life Over Ricky Collins’ Murder in Killamarsh
Fatal Stabbing on Westthorpe Road
Bradley Ward was found guilty of murdering Ricky Collins after a gripping three-week trial at Derby Crown Court in December.
On the evening of Monday 29 March, police rushed to Westthorpe Road following reports of a vicious assault. Ricky Collins, 31, from Sheffield, had been stabbed twice – once severely cutting an artery.
The victim staggered before collapsing on the street. He was rushed to hospital but tragically died just after midnight on Tuesday 30 March.
Attack Carried Out in Cold Blood
During the trial, it emerged that 24-year-old Ward pulled up beside Ricky’s van, got out, and stabbed him without warning. Ward denied murder, claiming self-defence, but the jury weren’t convinced.
Today (Wednesday 19 January), Ward was sentenced to life behind bars and must serve at least 23 years before being considered for release.
Family and Accomplices Sentenced
Detective Chief Inspector Sally Blaiklok said: “No sentence will bring Ricky back, but I hope his loved ones find comfort knowing the man responsible is locked up for years.”
Martin Mongan, 45, from Pontefract, along with Ward’s father David Ward, 44, and Kelly Ward, 43, all admitted helping an offender.
Martin and David Ward received two-year prison sentences. Kelly Ward’s sentencing will take place separately.
