Kane Gornall jailed for deadly crash after speeding and drink-driving
Kane Gornall has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Chelmsford Crown Court. The 27-year-old’s sentencing came on Thursday 20 April after a horrific crash in September 2021.
Speed, drink-driving and deadly recklessness
On 25 September 2021, Gornall’s blue Ford Fiesta veered off the B1018 road at more than 100mph – double the speed limit. Toxicology reports revealed he was well over the drink-drive limit at the time.
Investigators confirmed Gornall was speeding and intoxicated, resulting in impaired control that led to the fatal crash.
“The combination of excessive speed and impaired reactions meant that Kane Gornall lost control of the car. Something that was completely avoidable,” said Chief Inspector 123 Marshall.
“The Judge has sentenced him to 4 years and 8 months behind bars. I know it won’t bring Jake back, but hopefully it brings some closure to his family.”
Family left devastated by loss of beloved Jake
Jake, the victim, was lovingly remembered by his family as an “adored” son and brother who lit up every room.
“Jake loved life and lived it to the fullest, with a cheeky smile and an unforgettable laugh,” they said.
“He was adored by his two little sisters and loved by everyone. Jake touched so many lives and was blessed to have a wide circle of friends who will never forget his kindness or infectious personality.”
Despite Gornall’s jail term, the pain of a life cut short continues to echo through those who knew and loved Jake.
