Shocking Attack in Dane Park: Man Assaults Girl in Early Evening
The victim was strolling through Dane Park on the early evening of Tuesday 7 December 2022 when she spotted a man following her. She tried to hide behind a tree, but he kept on her tail. Frightened, she phoned her mother – and that’s when Steven Palmer grabbed her from behind and shoved her to the ground.
Palmer then tried to rip off her clothes and sexually assaulted her.
Bystanders Step In
The horrifying attack was witnessed by a nearby passerby, who raised the alarm. Thanks to swift community action, Palmer was caught and has now been locked up. He will serve a further three years on licence upon release and is slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Lucy Clarke said: “We believe that women and girls should be able to walk alone without fear of attack or abuse. Kent Police does not tolerate violence against them. Steven Palmer’s attack was a terrifying incident, and we are grateful to those who noticed something was wrong and acted fast. Their quick thinking means Palmer is behind bars and can no longer threaten anyone.”
Kent Police’s Commitment to Safety
Kent Police is working hard to keep communities safe. Officers regularly hold “walk and talk” events to hear public concerns and boost safety awareness.
