Man Found Guilty of Brutal Knife Attack on Social Worker

Sulai Bukhari, 35, of Noel Park Road, N22, has been convicted at the Old Bailey for the savage stabbing of a social worker. The victim was stabbed eight times in a terrifying assault.

Shocking Violent Attack Caught Police Off Guard

The attack happened on August 6, 2021, just before 8pm. Police were called to help a Haringey Council social worker checking on a vulnerable individual at an address in Noel Park Road. When officers were refused entry, they forced their way in.

Bukhari, lurking nearby, seized the chance. Armed with two Swiss Army knives, he launched a vicious attack on the 61-year-old social worker waiting outside.

  • The victim suffered stab wounds to his chest, abdomen, shoulder, and arms.
  • Two of the three police officers trying to restrain Bukhari were also hurt.

One officer sustained a serious armpit cut despite wearing a protective vest, while another suffered injuries to his neck, chest, and arms. All received hospital treatment and were released.

Justice Delivered with Hospital and Restriction Orders

Bukhari was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent against the officers.

On Monday, January 20, he appeared at the Old Bailey again and was handed a hospital order under Section 37 and a restriction order under Section 41 of the Mental Health Act.

Detective Sounds Warning on Risks to Public Workers

Detective Constable Elliott Hughes said: “It is only thanks to sheer luck that the main victim was not fatally injured. He continues to suffer both physically and psychologically from this brutal attack.”

“This case highlights the constant danger public sector workers face every day. They put themselves at risk to protect others.”
