Illegal Gun Shipment Busted: Man Caught With Firearm Sent From Spain
The Organised Crime Partnership—a joint force from the NCA and Police Scotland—has cracked down on Scott Grant, 36, from Greenock. Border Force intercepted a forward venting blank firing handgun sent through the postal system, sparking a full investigation.
Weapon Seized Was Easily Converted to Fire Live Rounds
The handgun is illegal in the UK because it can be quickly converted to fire real bullets. The weapon was shipped from Spain, where these types of guns are legal. Grant was arrested at his Wren Road home on 14 May 2020. Police also found a crossbow, knives, a ballistic vest, and a second legal blank-firing weapon during the raid.
Five-Year Jail Sentence for Prohibited Weapon Purchase
Grant pleaded guilty and was sentenced on 5 January at Edinburgh High Court. He received five years behind bars for buying a prohibited firearm.
Police Urge Public to Help Fight Illegal Firearms
“There is absolutely no place for illegal firearms in our communities,” said authorities. “We will use all resources to combat organised crime and bring offenders to justice.”
