Tottenham Gunman Caught After Summer Evening Shootout
Ricardo Anderson, 21, of Manor Road, Tottenham, was found guilty at the Central Criminal Court for possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, plus attempted grievous bodily harm. The verdict came down on Wednesday, 10 April.
Terrified Crowds Caught in Crossfire
Detective Constable Rhiain John described the terrifying scene on a busy summer’s evening. “People, including children, scrambled for safety behind parked cars and in shops as shots rang out,” she said. “Anderson showed zero concern for the public. This could easily have been a murder investigation – sheer luck prevented it.”
Violent Gang Feud Sparks City Shootout
Police discovered the shooting was connected to an ongoing rivalry between local gangs. On 27 May 2023 at 8pm, a blue VW Golf sped along Park Lane, N17, before screeching to a halt. A masked man then pulled a gun from his waistband and fired wildly at another vehicle.
The other car’s occupant tried to return fire but his weapon jammed. The gunmen fled – one sped off in the car, the other vanished on foot. Specialist firearms officers rushed to the scene but found no suspects immediately.
CCTV Break Leads to Arrest
Detectives quickly tracked down CCTV footage showing a man in a distinctive blue North Face tracksuit and balaclava firing a gun. Another clip from a nearby shop revealed the same man without his face covered. Police identified him as Ricardo Anderson.
He was arrested on 31 May and charged the following day. The stolen vehicle used in the incident was recovered, although the occupants remain unidentified.
Anderson is due to be sentenced on 1 and 22 May.
