Monster Killer Hid Two Women’s Bodies in Freezer
A 36-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering two women and chillingly stashing their bodies in a chest freezer at his Canning Town flat.
Zahid Younis Convicted of Double Murder
Zahid Younis, from Vandome Close, E16, was convicted at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, 3 September, for the murders of Mihrican ‘Jan’ Mustafa, 38, and Henriett Szucs, 34. Their frozen remains were discovered in his home on 27 April 2019.
Previously, Younis had admitted to preventing the lawful burial of both women. But despite his lies and attempts to blame others, the jury saw through him.
Police Hunch Leads to Gruesome Discovery
Police were initially called after a friend reported Younis missing. When no one answered the door, officers returned to search the flat. A strong instinct led them to pry open a locked chest freezer tucked behind a cupboard meter. Inside lay Mihrican’s frozen body, wrapped in plastic and a bedsheet, with a grey Superman sock still on her foot.
X-rays of the freezer revealed another body beneath Mihrican – Henriett, wrapped in pyjamas and a sleeping bag, encased in the original freezer packaging. Both women had suffered multiple injuries including fractured ribs and head trauma.
Victims’ Backgrounds Reveal Dark Past
- Henriett Szucs: A Hungarian who arrived in the UK in 2012, she endured abusive relationships and mental health struggles. She moved in with Younis in 2016 and was last seen alive in August 2016, believed to have died shortly after Younis purchased the freezer to hide her body.
- Mihrican Mustafa: Last seen alive in May 2018, Mihrican was reported missing by her sister shortly after. She had a chaotic lifestyle and had been in contact with Younis in the months before her disappearance.
Both women were vulnerable, battling homelessness and addiction. Younis had a history of abusing and controlling women like them.
Family’s Heartbreaking Tributes
“Jan’s death has changed our family forever… I still don’t believe it. She was a gentle being, a fantastic mother who adored her children. She was an angel. The trial is over, justice has been done, but it will never bring my Jan back.” – Mihrican’s family
“Maria, Henriett’s mother, is devastated to lose her daughter in another country where she had no control over the legal process. The fact Henriett lay undiscovered in that freezer for over two years breaks her heart daily.”
Detective Praises Police and Forensics
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding commended the officers who trusted their instincts and uncovered the horror hidden within the freezer. He said, “Younis is a violent, manipulative man who lied during the trial, fabricating stories to avoid responsibility.”
