Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint in Blackburn – attacker jailed for four years!
Cold-blooded robbery in broad daylight
At 8.40am on September 6, Reece Waring, 22, rang up a taxi from a Blackburn hotel and told the driver to collect him from a nearby street. The thug got in, pretending to be from Salford but couldn’t say exactly where.
When the cab stopped at Bunkers Hill Close, Waring pulled out a knife and demanded all the driver’s cash.
Knife pressed to throat in terrifying ordeal
The driver told Waring to get out. Instead, Waring held the blade to his throat and once again demanded money. The driver luckily managed to unbuckle and escape unscathed.
Waring then fled with £70 cash.
Caught on CCTV and sentenced
After scouring CCTV footage and using the victim’s description, police nabbed Waring three days later. The ex-Fearnlea Close resident, now homeless, faced charges for robbery and carrying an offensive weapon.
Preston Crown Court convicted him of robbery and weapon possession. On February 21, he was sentenced to four years behind bars.
Police slam ‘premeditated and cowardly’ attack
DC James Wilde, Lancashire Police, said: “This was a premeditated and cowardly offence committed against a completely innocent victim who was just trying to make an honest living.”
“Waring armed himself with a weapon and got into that taxi knowing there was going to be a confrontation – one that could have easily led to the victim losing his life.”
“I’m pleased the courts have recognised the seriousness of Waring’s actions and I hope he uses his time in custody to reflect on his appalling behaviour.”
“Thanks to everyone involved in securing this conviction. A dangerous individual has been taken off the streets.”
