Estranged Husband Stabs Wife to Death in Headingley
Satpreet Singh Gandhi, 37, has been jailed for life after fatally stabbing his estranged wife Harleen Kaur Satpreet Gandhi, 32, outside her flat in Headingley.
Chilling Attack Outside Her Home
On Monday, September 5, Satpreet armed himself with a knife, loitering near Harleen’s Victoria Road flat. Police were called at 6.26pm after reports of a disturbance. Inside, they found Harleen unconscious and bleeding heavily.
Despite emergency hospital treatment, Harleen tragically died from a stab wound to the chest. The killer fled but was caught later that evening in Burley.
Court Case and Sentence
Police investigations revealed Satpreet bought the murder weapon from Asda on Kirkstall Road a week earlier. CCTV showed him waiting near Harleen’s home and fleeing the scene after the attack.
Friends exposed a hidden history of domestic violence and controlling behaviour by Satpreet, although no prior police reports had been filed.
He refused to comment during interviews but pleaded guilty to murder at Leeds Crown Court on November 8. Today, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years and four months.
Family Speak Out, Police Promise Action
“Harleen had come to the UK to study and had bright plans. Her life was cruelly cut short by her estranged husband’s actions,” said Detective Inspector Amanda Wimbles.
Harleen was living apart from Satpreet, trying to move on from abuse. The police stressed their commitment to tackling violence against women and urged victims to come forward.
“Harleen’s family are devastated but grateful the justice system held Satpreet accountable,” said her parents Ravinder Singh and Narinder Kaur Kohli, alongside her brother Ekam Singh Kohli. “Thanks to West Yorkshire Police for their swift, dedicated work.”
