Pervert Caught After Trying to Groom ’12-Year-Old’ Online
David Asser, 49, of Hertford Road, Enfield, was slapped with jail time after he tried to sexually groom a girl he thought was just 12. But the “girl” was actually an adult posing as a child in an undercover sting.
Grooming Chat Turns to Meeting Plan
Asser pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court to attempting sexual communication with a child under 16 and trying to meet a child after grooming. He started chatting in November 2020 and ignored repeated warnings that the “girl” was just 12. He even made explicit suggestions during their talks.
Unaware he was dealing with a decoy adult, Asser pushed to meet the “girl.” On 7 December, he showed up at Mandeville Road, Enfield, only to be confronted by an online vigilante group who held him until police arrived.
28 Months Behind Bars and a Decade on the Sex Offenders Register
On 23 November, Asser was sentenced to 28 months in prison and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. Items seized from his home confirmed his disturbing grooming attempts.
DC Jeffrey from North Area Command Unit said: “David Asser was fully aware of the age of the girl he believed he was communicating with yet despite this, he persisted in making sexually explicit suggestions to her and then made efforts to physically meet with her. His actions are deplorable and it is right he has been held to account for this.”
