Teen Rapist Slapped with 10 Years Behind Bars in Canterbury
Haftom Etebarek, 19, was locked up for a decade after being found guilty of three counts of rape. The horrific attack happened near Folkestone’s High Street back in July 2021.
Attack in Dark Alley After Nightclub
On July 31, 2021, Etebarek spotted his victim in a local nightclub. When she left in the early hours, he followed her into a nearby alley. Despite her efforts to push him away, he forced her down causing her to hit her head before committing the vile act.
He fled the scene immediately. The victim bravely reported the crime to Kent Police, kicking off a hunt that ended with his arrest just a week later.
Court Case Ends with Tough Sentence
Etebarek defended himself but the CCTV evidence was damning. On June 15, 2022, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced him to 10 years in a Young Offenders’ Institution.
“This crime has had a long-term impact on the victim,” said Detective Inspector Richard Palmer. “I hope this sentence helps her rebuild her life.”
