Pregnant Woman and Husband Brutally Robbed in East London – One Suspect Jailed

Fred Odum-Jones, 38, from Lewisham, was locked up for four and a half years on 2 November at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to robbery, assault by beating, and dangerous driving.

Terrifying Attack on Couple Returning Home

On the evening of 20 July, a young couple were returning from dinner in central London. The man, in his 20s, carried a bag full of cash and jewellery. As they entered their Tower Hamlets block, two thugs followed them inside.

The attackers repeatedly punched the man, snatched his bag, and even kicked him while he lay on the floor. The woman, six months pregnant at the time, tried to defend her husband but was shoved aside. The suspects then fled the scene.

Victim Dragged by Car in Desperate Struggle

The injured man chased the suspects to their waiting car, reaching inside to grab back his bag. Instead, the criminals sped off, dragging him along the street until he was forced to let go. Both victims were rushed to hospital. The woman escaped unharmed, but the man suffered cuts and bruises.

Police Search for Second Suspect

After a detailed CCTV investigation, police arrested Odum-Jones at his home three days later. Detectives praised the victim’s courage but warned the second attacker remains on the loose.

DC Tom Lynch-Lawton, Central East CID, said: “This was an absolutely terrifying experience for the victims on their own doorstep. Odum-Jones and his associate showed no regard for the safety of the victims – especially a visibly pregnant woman – in their ruthless theft. The callousness continued as they assaulted the man while he lay prone. London’s streets are safer with Odum-Jones behind bars. We are still hunting the second suspect.”

Officers have released images of the second man: black, mid-30s, stocky build, wearing a white T-shirt, black joggers, white trainers, and a black hat. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting CAD 7655/20Jul22.
