London Man Jailed Over Terrorist Propaganda from 2017
Fahd Ismail, 33, from South East London, has been sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars for possessing Islamist material that glorified terrorism. The offences date back to 2017 and were uncovered by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Met’s Counter Terrorism Unit Crack Down
Ismail was arrested in June 2020 after a thorough investigation. Initially released on bail, he was later charged with six counts related to possession and distribution of extremist material, including documents useful for planning terror attacks.
On 2 July, Ismail pleaded guilty to all charges at Woolwich Crown Court. Along with his prison sentence, he received a 12-month licence extension and a 10-year notification order.
Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “This was a diligent and thorough investigation by highly skilled Counter Terrorism officers, which prevented further dissemination of extremist material.”
“I encourage anyone who has suspicions about material someone is viewing online to report it to police without delay. Trust your instincts and know that you are never wasting our time.”
Public Urged to ACT Against Terrorism
Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) is urging communities nationwide to help snuff out extremism by reporting suspicious behaviour. Around 20% of reports from the public prove valuable to police intelligence.
- Know someone viewing extremist content, including on the Dark Web?
- Worried about sharing or creating terrorist propaganda?
- Spot something suspicious? Trust your gut and ACT.
