Devastating Explosion Rocks Creeslough Service Station
An explosion ripped through the Applegreen service station on the edge of Creeslough shortly after 3 p.m., leaving chaos in its wake. Sniffer dogs are combing the scene as emergency crews search for survivors or further danger.
Cars Smashed, Apartment Building Wrecked
Explosive debris tore through several cars parked nearby. Behind the forecourt, what appeared to be an apartment building was almost completely destroyed. Shocking images show the scale of the damage.
“This is very, very difficult here in a small rural village,” said Councillor John O’Donnell. “Everyone here is completely numb – we’re all in shock.”
Mass Casualties Treated at Letterkenny Hospital
Letterkenny University Hospital declared a “Major Emergency Standby” as they handled multiple serious injuries. A spokesperson urged the public, “Do not visit the Emergency Department unless it’s an absolute emergency.”
Applegreen confirmed a “serious incident” at the dealer-operated site.
Nation Mourns; Emergency Services Rally
Taoiseach Micheál Martin sent his thoughts and prayers to the Creeslough community. “I’m also thinking of the emergency services from the north-west and Northern Ireland who are working in a very traumatic situation,” he said.
An extensive response is underway, involving:
- Donegal County Council and An Garda Síochána
- National Ambulance Service and Irish Coast Guard
- Coast Guard Rescue 118 Helicopter and Irish Air Corps Medivac 112
- Northern Ireland Ambulance HEMS and Urban Search and Rescue teams
- Local fire and mountain rescue services
Residents have been urged to stay clear of the area.
Foreign Minister Simon Coveney expressed deep sorrow, calling it a “very sad and tragic day.” He also thanked Northern Ireland Health Minister Robin Swann for sending emergency crews to assist. On Twitter, Coveney wrote, “Sincere thanks for your help today Robin.”
