Brutal £145k watch robbery ends with thug locked up for nine years
Lindell Angell, 32, has been slammed with a hefty nine-and-a-half-year sentence for a vicious robbery in central London. The Hackney man targeted a man’s £145,000 Patek Phillipe watch in a savage late-night attack.
Drinks, Deceit and Darkness
Angell struck on the Strand, charming his 51-year-old victim into a two-hour drinking session at a nearby bar. After swapping numbers, the pair set off—but Angell had sinister plans.
He persuaded the man to follow him down a dark side street near Embankment Tube. Without warning, Angell launched a brutal assault, choking and punching the victim until he lost consciousness.
Watch Snatched, Victim Left for Dead
With the victim out cold and suffering facial fractures, Angell ripped the luxury watch from his wrist and fled the scene. A passerby found the injured man and phoned the London Ambulance Service.
Manhunt Ends with Arrest
Police zeroed in on Angell through CCTV footage and phone records. Despite trying to dodge the cops, he was caught in a hotel on Euston Road on 6 February after a determined manhunt by the Proactive Robbery Team.
Officers later uncovered a lock-up rented days after the crime, seizing a large haul of cash linked to Angell under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Detective’s Warning to Londoners
“This was a brutal robbery that not only resulted in serious physical harm, but the victim continues to recover from the psychological trauma,” said Detective Constable Gemma Oganian.
“People should be able to walk the streets of London and not fear this type of crime. We are doing everything in our power to keep our streets safe, and we want to reaffirm this to the people we serve. We will proactively investigate and seek tough sentences for offenders like Angell.”
