Violent Assault and Sextortion Lands Man Two Years Behind Bars
Paul Thomas Kavanagh, 56, from Westminster, has been sentenced to two years in jail for assault and sharing private sexual images to cause distress. The judgment came down at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 27 May.
Gruesome Attack at Newcastle Hotel
Kavanagh travelled to Newcastle and stayed at the Sleeperz Hotel, where he relentlessly pressured the victim with texts and calls to visit him. When she finally agreed, a brutal assault unfolded. Kavanagh hit her in the face with a bottle and bit her eye before they had sex. As she tried to leave, he blocked her exit and threatened to release video footage of their encounter.
Harassment Continues After Assault
The victim, hiding her injuries with makeup, was examined by Kavanagh the next day. He then bombarded her with messages during work hours, demanding she return to the hotel. When she refused, he shared the intimate footage without consent.
DS Graham Marshall-Batey said, “The victim has understandably been left shattered by Kavanagh’s violence and malicious actions. While the physical injuries she sustained have healed, the humiliation of having a private encounter shared with others without her consent continues to have a huge impact.”
Kavanagh was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting or approaching the victim.
