Stepfather’s Savage Beating Kills 15-Year-Old Sebastian in Huddersfield

Fifteen-year-old Sebastian Kalinowski died after brutal abuse by his steroid-using stepfather, Andrzej Latoszewski, 38, a Thai boxing martial artist. The youngster’s ribs were shattered and left untreated, causing fatal complications.

Mother and Stepfather Team Up in Horror Home Abuse

Sebastian’s mother, Agnieszka Kalinowska, didn’t just stand by—she actively joined in the beatings and egged on Latoszewski. The abuse unfolded at their home on Leeds Road, Huddersfield.

Over nearly five weeks of testimony at Leeds Crown Court, the jury was shown chilling CCTV footage from the couple’s own home, capturing the teen’s horrific treatment. Prosecutors revealed the cameras were partly installed to spy on Sebastian.

Relentless Torture Caught on Camera

  • Latoszewski repeatedly kicked, punched, and stamped on Sebastian.
  • He battered his stepson with makeshift weapons—a stair spindle, a bed slat, even a flex cable whip.
  • Despite his injuries, Sebastian sometimes handed over weapons himself, so conditioned was he to the abuse.
  • The boy was forced to do humiliating exercise drills—hundreds of push-ups and squats—and endure long isolation.
  • Agonising verbal attacks and physical restraint by his own mother made the abuse even worse.
  • Prosecutors said Sebastian was treated like a “human punchbag” and suffered unimaginable “torture.”

Fatal Neglect and Cover-Up After Collapse

On August 13 last year, Sebastian collapsed from his injuries. But Latoszewski waited over two hours before calling an ambulance.

During this time, the couple tried to dress Sebastian’s battered body, with Latoszewski even pouring water into his mouth to fake drowning. Then he took down the CCTV cameras.

Doctors found over 80 injuries including 23 broken ribs left untreated, which became infected and proved fatal. Shockingly, Latoszewski laughed and joked about Sebastian being “naughty.”

Couple Face Murder and Child Cruelty Charges

Both Latoszewski and Kalinowska are charged with murder, manslaughter, causing or allowing a child’s death, and child cruelty. They initially denied all charges.

Latoszewski later pleaded guilty to manslaughter while Kalinowska admitted child cruelty. Both still deny intending to kill Sebastian, claiming their abuse was “reasonable punishment” for minor misbehaviour like lying and skipping school.

During the trial, Kalinowska described herself as “a puppet” controlled by her partner. She said she thought smacking Sebastian “like a mother would her son” was normal parenting.

Latoszewski tried to justify his torture by claiming their usual punishments “failed to work” and he needed to be “more aggressive” during school holidays.

But Sebastian’s school, North Huddersfield Trust, praised him as a “model student” with no signs of misbehaviour.

Justice Swift as Jury Delivers Guilty Verdicts

The jury took less than three and a half hours to convict the pair unanimously. Sentencing will be decided in due course.

“The treatment of Sebastian is truly shocking, and it should not happen in a civilised, or any, society.” – Latoszewski’s lawyer Nicholas Lumley QC

“No matter how hardened we are, this case really takes the biscuit.” – Kalinowska’s QC Leonard Smith
