Couple Found Guilty of Murdering Toddler Keigan in Doncaster

A grim verdict has been handed down at Sheffield Crown Court where Sarah O’Brien, 33, and Martin Currie, 36, were convicted over the tragic death of two-year-old Keigan.

Jury Delivers Guilty Verdict After Grisly Trial

After three days of intense deliberation, the jury found Martin Currie guilty of murder and child neglect. Sarah O’Brien was found guilty of allowing the death of a child and child neglect. The verdict brings to a close a harrowing five-week trial.

Shocking Details of Keigan’s Injuries Revealed

  • Emergency services were called to Keigan’s home in Adwick-Le-Street, Doncaster, on 8 January after he was found unconscious and not breathing.
  • Paramedics managed to resuscitate Keigan, but he tragically died the next day.
  • A post-mortem revealed a severe head injury as the cause of death.
  • Medical reports uncovered multiple injuries: a brain bleed, fractured arm, fractured spine (from 6-16 weeks prior), broken ribs (2-4 weeks before death), and previous brain bleeding.
  • Experts said the force to Keigan’s head could only be caused by crushing injuries, falls from height, or car crashes.

Police and Family Speak Out

Detective Chief Inspector James Axe said: “The loss of a child is devastating. O’Brien and Currie showed no remorse during the trial. Keigan did not receive urgent medical help for nearly two hours, giving them time to lie and cover the truth. They were the ones who should have protected him.”

Keigan’s biological father paid a heartfelt tribute: “Keigan was such a special little boy—lovable, playful, and full of fun. He will always have a place in our hearts. We are truly heartbroken.”

O’Brien and Currie are set to be sentenced later this week at Sheffield Crown Court. Both face hefty jail terms for their roles in this heartbreaking case.
