Monster Mum Mairead Philpott Released After Just 8½ Years for Killing Six Kids
Outrage as Philpott Walks Free
Mairead Philpott, 39, sparked fury yesterday after being freed from HMP Send in Surrey on the very first day she was eligible for release on licence. Crime campaigners slammed the move, with David Spencer from the Centre for Crime Prevention blasting: “Justice has not been done. Child killers like Mairead Philpott should not be free to roam the streets.”
Philpott was handed just 8½ years for the manslaughter of her six children in a horrific arson attack. “She has served barely more than a year for each of the innocent lives she callously took away.”
Celebrity-Style VIP Protection for Child Killer
Sources reveal she arrived at a halfway house in a convoy worthy of a celebrity, not a convicted mum who lost her children. Philpott was escorted by undercover cops and bundled into a hostel under cover of darkness, hood up, masked and clutching official papers.
Her convoy included an Audi Q3, with cops and staff hauling in her belongings in a see-through prison bag. The operation was said to be “massive” and “costly” amid budget cuts, raising eyebrows.
New Identity, Curfews and Therapy – Taxpayer’s Tab
Philpott faces a strict 7pm to 7am curfew and is set to stay in the hostel for three months before she’s freed under a new name. She will get offender supervision, life coaching, counselling, yoga and therapy – all funded by taxpayers to protect her fresh identity.
Her mother Vera, 62, who has disowned her, said from Derby: “I don’t want her near my door. The sentence is not nearly long enough.”
A Dark Past and Twisted Motives
- Philpott and husband Mick plotted the arson at their Derby council home in 2012, intending to frame Mick’s ex-girlfriend and snag a bigger house.
- Six children — Jade, John, Jack, Jesse, Jayden, plus Mairead’s son Duwayne who died days later — perished in the blaze.
- Mick received a life sentence with a 15-year minimum tariff; Mairead and their accomplice Paul Mosley got 17 years, serving at least half.
- Judge condemned Mairead for putting Mick above her own children in a “wicked and dangerous plan”.
- Prior to the attack, Mick boasted about his chaotic family life on ITV’s Jeremy Kyle Show, bragging about 15 kids with five women.
Philpott also sent lurid letters from prison professing desires to have more children with a boyfriend.
Public Outcry and Calls for Tougher Sentences
Locals in Derby expressed heartbreak and anger. One former neighbour said: “Seeing those tiny coffins was heart wrenching. The justice system is completely wrong.”
A Prison Service source reminded: “Offenders released on licence face strict conditions and can be returned to prison if they breach them.”
Campaigners demand urgent reforms, with calls on the Home Secretary to overhaul sentencing to ensure killers like Philpott serve the time their crimes warrant.
