Man Charged After Teen Left Fighting for Life in Horror Crash

A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after a nasty collision on Hartswood Road, Warley. The crash happened just before 2.30pm on Saturday, 19 September, involving a Mercedes and a black Ford Kuga.

Driver Faces Multiple Charges

The teenager, a pedestrian from Brentwood, was seriously hurt in the smash. The Mercedes driver, along with a 43-year-old man nearby, only suffered minor injuries. Two men in the Ford Kuga were arrested at the scene.

Jack Madel, 28, who has no fixed address, now faces serious charges: causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop after an accident, and driving without insurance.

Madel appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 21 September, and was remanded in custody ahead of a Crown Court hearing on 19 October.

Second Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

A 27-year-old man from Billericay was also arrested and remains in hospital with serious injuries related to the crash.

Inspector Mark Fraser from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “My thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, including those who witnessed the aftermath. We’re grateful to those who have helped at the scene and have come forward to assist our enquiries.”

He added they are hunting a cyclist who was in the area at the time and may hold key information. Witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage are urged to come forward.
