Derbyshire Cop Remanded in Custody Over Shocking Child Sex Charges
Cop Charged with 29 Offences
Matthew Shaw, a 37-year-old officer from Derbyshire Police, was remanded in custody after a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday. Shaw faces a staggering 29 charges, including voyeurism, sexual communication with a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, exposing a child to sexual acts, and possession of indecent images of children.
Investigation Sparks Strong Police Reaction
Nottinghamshire Police charged Shaw last month and have been relentless in their probe. Detective Inspector Gemma Scott said, “A significant amount of work has gone into this complex and large-scale investigation, which is reflective of Nottinghamshire Police’s commitment to vigorously pursue those who commit sexual offences against children.”
She added, “We are committed to assisting victims of these types of crimes and will always do everything possible to ensure their justice.”
Derbyshire Police Responds
Following the charges, Derbyshire Police swiftly suspended Shaw pending further inquiries. Deputy Chief Constable Kate Meynell stressed the force’s zero-tolerance stance, stating the alleged offences fall well below the standards expected of any officer or staff member.
Next Court Date Set
Matthew Shaw is due back in court on November 18 for a plea and trial preparation hearing. The case remains under close watch as investigative efforts continue to unfold.
