Ilford Rapist Hamza Nasir Jailed for 14 Years
Hamza Nasir, 22, from Pembroke Road, Ilford, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a woman and a girl under 16 in two separate attacks. The sentences were handed down at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 26 April 2024.
Grotesque Attacks Uncovered
The chilling crimes date back to 23 January 2022. Nasir met the adult victim outside a nightclub in Basildon. He and his mates offered her a lift to a party, but instead drove to a dark alley near Newbury Park underground station. There, Nasir brutally raped the woman before fleeing on foot.
In a separate incident, Nasir assaulted a girl under 16, who managed to escape and call for help.
Cunning Digital Clues Crack Case
Nasir tried to hide his identity online, using a fake name on Snapchat. However, officers spotted a photo he posted from an Ilford hotel. Quick detective work cross-referenced his Snapchat snap with hotel records, confirming Nasir’s identity.
He was arrested by police on 16 March 2023. DNA taken in custody linked him to the Newbury Park rape.
Police Praise Bravery and Vow to Protect
DC Chloe James said: “Dedicated officers are working round the clock to catch predatory men who commit these terrible crimes. I applaud the bravery of both victims, who supported the investigation. Thanks to strong evidence, Nasir pleaded guilty, sparing them the trauma of a court trial.”
“Women in Ilford and across London are safer with Nasir behind bars. After his release, he will remain on the sex offenders register for life.”
The Metropolitan Police committed to protecting women and children from violence, continuing efforts under their ten-point action plan to tackle sexual offenders and make London’s streets safer for all.
