Depraved Rapist Thomas Mulroy Locked Up for At Least Nine Years
Thomas Mulroy shocked a woman by launching a brutal attack at his Chatham home on 27 March 2021. He suddenly assaulted and raped her, shattering her safety in an instant.
Victim’s Desperate Attempt to Escape
The victim tried to call a friend for help, but Mulroy smashed her phone and trapped her inside. Miraculously, she managed to break free and rushed straight to Medway police station to report the horrific ordeal.
Mulroy Arrested and Charged
Mulroy was arrested in the early hours of 28 March. He faced charges of two counts of rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage.
Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
At trial, Mulroy was convicted of rape and had already pleaded guilty to other charges. On 27 September 2024, the 56-year-old was sentenced to a minimum of nine years and three months behind bars. A risk assessment will decide if he can ever be considered for parole.
Detective Constable Jane Lowe said: “The victim has shown exceptional courage throughout these proceedings, helping us bring this abhorrent criminal to justice. The judge also commended her bravery.”
“She was subjected to an appalling attack by a depraved and dangerous predator. Our officers remain committed to providing her with the best possible support.”
“Despite the irrefutable evidence, Mulroy forced the victim through a trial. I am pleased he has received a substantial prison sentence. I sincerely hope the victim can now find some closure with this criminal behind bars.”
