Brutal Burglar Caught! Paul Debenham Jailed for 12 Years

Orpington Burglar Targeted Elderly Victims

Paul Debenham, 30, with no fixed address, was slammed with a 12-year prison sentence at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, 29 April. He was found guilty of a string of ruthless aggravated burglaries across the Orpington area.

Debenham preyed on the vulnerable – breaking into homes while elderly residents were still inside. On 31 October 2023, he forced his way into a Spur Road house, threatening a 78-year-old man with a handgun. He then pinned a 76-year-old woman to the floor and made off with their car, jewellery, and alcohol.

CCTV Footage Sealed His Fate

While inside the home, Debenham was caught red-handed on an internal CCTV camera. The footage showed him rifling through the property, providing crucial evidence that helped crack the case wide open. Fingerprints lifted from a discarded box at the scene sealed his identity.

Police Praise Team Effort in Bringing Him Down

PC Rob Melton from Bromley Police’s burglary squad said: “Debenham was a ruthless criminal who committed crime to fund his lifestyle. He showed no remorse for the long-lasting impact these offences had on his victims.

“His arrest and the mountain of evidence against him came from a combined effort across multiple police units. He now faces a hefty sentence that will keep the public safe from his despicable crimes.”

More Than Just Two Burglaries

Besides the two aggravated burglaries, Debenham was charged with:

  • Four commercial burglaries
  • Seven residential burglaries
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Vehicle interference

In total, he was linked to 15 offences through extensive CCTV investigations at homes and shops across the area.
