Armed Cop Arrested Over Sarah Everard Disappearance
Sarah Everard vanished last Wednesday night while walking home from a friend’s house. It’s now been a week, and she’s still missing.
Last night, police made a shocking breakthrough. Wayne Couzens, a serving armed officer based in Westminster, was arrested at a Kent address in connection with Sarah’s disappearance. He is still in custody.
Cop’s Wife Also Busted for Helping Offender
Police also arrested Couzens’ wife, Elena Couzens, at the same location. She’s been charged with suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody in London.
Sarah left her friend’s house around 9pm last Wednesday and should have been home in Brixton about 50 minutes later. The Met has confirmed the ongoing search and investigation continues at pace.
Police Speak Out on Shocking Arrest
Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin said: “This is a significant development in our inquiry. This is a fast moving investigation and we are doing everything we can to find Sarah.
“We have seen an overwhelming response from the public and I repeat my request for anyone with information that may be relevant to come forward, no matter how insignificant it may seem.”
Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave added: “The arrest this evening is a serious and significant development. We will continue to work with all speed on this investigation but the fact that the arrested man is a serving Metropolitan Police officer is both shocking and deeply disturbing.
“I understand there will be significant public concern but it is essential that the investigative team are given the time and space to continue their work.”
Investigation Intensifies as Public Appeals Continue
The Directorate of Professional Standards is involved, and Sarah’s family has been kept fully updated. Police urge anyone with any information – no matter how small – to come forward immediately.
