PC Found Guilty of Sexual Assault on Colleague
PC Archit Sharma, attached to the North Area Basic Command Unit, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a colleague while on duty. The shocking verdict came after a trial at Wood Green Crown Court that wrapped up on Monday, 6 March.
Sentencing Set for May
Sharma, who was charged back on 28 July 2021, will be sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 5 May. He remains suspended from duty as criminal and misconduct proceedings continue.
Betrayal of Trust Sparks Fury
The allegations first emerged on 7 December 2020, when it was reported that Sharma assaulted a fellow officer during work hours.
Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines slammed Sharma’s actions: “I am furious that an officer has behaved in such a grossly unacceptable way. In doing what he did, PC Sharma totally betrayed all the values of policing.”
“I hope that this outcome demonstrates that we will treat reports of sexual assault with the utmost seriousness, wherever they occur and whoever is responsible. I applaud the bravery of this officer in coming forward in the way they did.”
Justice and Accountability
With sentencing looming, authorities vow to send a clear message: sexual misconduct in the ranks will not be tolerated. Misconduct hearings will follow to determine PC Sharma’s future with the force.
