Shocking Charges Laid
The officer was arrested in July 2021 and formally charged on Tuesday, a Scotland Yard spokesperson confirmed. Chehab faces:
- Four counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15
- Five counts of making and taking indecent images of children
- Engaging in sexual communication with a child
- Distributing indecent images of children
- Encouraging or assisting in distribution of indecent images
All alleged offences took place between 2019 and 2021.
Police React and Court Date Set
PC Chehab was due in Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court Tuesday afternoon. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was quickly notified, and he’s been suspended from duty.
DCS Caroline Haines, head of North Area policing, admitted the case “will raise anxiety” locally. She added: “We recognise that this news will raise anxiety among the community, and we have fully engaged with our local partners throughout this inquiry.”
She also emphasised the Met’s commitment to restoring trust: “The Met has launched a thorough review of its standards as part of a real desire to rebuild trust, but I recognise that developments like this undermine that work.”
Public Urged to Speak Out
The Met urged anyone with concerns about officers’ behaviour to come forward immediately.
This case deepens fears over policing standards and child safety. We’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds.
