Knife Attack Shocks Mansfield Town Centre
Eighteen-year-old Joshua Price sparked a violent chase through Mansfield town centre before stabbing a man in broad daylight.
Chase Ends in Stabbing
Price goaded and argued with a 42-year-old man near Stockwell Gate around 6.33pm on 19 August 2020. When the victim tried to walk away, Price punched him repeatedly to the head, back, and hand.
Then, shockingly, Price pulled out a knife and stabbed the man once in the back. The victim suffered a one-inch deep wound requiring four stitches and urgent medical treatment.
Knife Disposed in Panic
After the attack, Price fled and handed the knife to a friend, urging them to ditch it. In a panic, the knife was thrown down a road drain on Union Street. Police later recovered the weapon thanks to witness information.
Justice Served at Nottingham Crown Court
Price, from St Andrews Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and threatening with a bladed article in public. On 18 August 2021, he was sentenced to two years and three months in a young offenders’ institution.
A witness recalled hearing the victim cry out: “Are you going to shank me then? I’ve just been stabbed.”
Detective Constable Gareth Peace of Nottinghamshire Police vowed, “We take reports of knife crime extremely seriously. Price is now learning the hard way that knife violence won’t be tolerated on our streets.”
He added, “We remain committed to rooting out knife crime and protecting the people who live, work and visit Nottinghamshire.”
