Man Arrested Over Clapham Knife Attacks and Burglaries

Police have made a breakthrough in a string of frightening incidents across Clapham. On Monday 27 November, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Another man, aged in his 20s, was also arrested earlier on 24 November at a Brixton address over similar violent offences and possession of an offensive weapon. A third man, linked to an unrelated burglary investigation, was detained at the same location.

Uber Driver Stabbed and Women Targeted in Clapham

The violent spree began on 17 November, when a woman walking on Sisters Avenue spotted a man following her. She shouted and the man fled—he was carrying a knife.

Two days later, on 19 November, a man grabbed a woman on Sumburgh Road but she managed to escape.

The worst incident came on 23 November, when an Uber driver was stabbed twice in the chest on Nightingale Lane. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening and he has since been released from hospital.

Police Pursue Public for More Leads

Detectives released images of a suspect on 23 November, linking him to all attacks. Officers chased the man near Clapham Common but he got away. Later that morning, he was spotted again riding a red bicycle and fled once more after a pursuit.

“We recognise these incidents will have caused a lot of concern within the local community,” said Detective Superintendent Dan O’Sullivan. “Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for the force. We thank the public for their help and urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Both men arrested in connection with the linked attacks have been bailed while inquiries continue. The third remains in custody facing burglary charges and has been remanded.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 754/17Nov.
