Obsession Turns Violent: Luke Hancock Jailed for Assault and Threats

Luke Hancock launched a vicious attack just days after meeting a woman on December 3, 2022. The 33-year-old then bombarded her with threatening messages all through December, ignoring her pleas to end contact. His threats didn’t just target the woman, but her children too.

Vandalism and Violent Outburst in Nottingham

On the same day as the attack, Hancock smashed the victim’s car windscreen before escalating his threats. His rampage culminated in a violent fight on New Year’s Eve in Mapperley Park, Nottingham. During the fracas, Hancock struck a man repeatedly with a baseball bat, hitting his head, body, and legs, leaving him bruised and in pain.

The baseball bat was handed to Hancock by 35-year-old Ricky Wilding, who also faced charges alongside him.

Sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court

  • Hancock was jailed for two years and slapped with a five-year restraining order after pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, assault by beating, malicious communications, and criminal damage.
  • Wilding, from Wigman Road, Bilborough, received an eight-month suspended sentence and must complete 120 hours of unpaid work plus 20 rehabilitation days for possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Both men appeared for sentencing on March 28, 2023, at Nottingham Crown Court.

Police Praise Sentence, Warn of Danger

“These were nasty and serious offences which must have been extremely frightening ordeals for the victims,” said Detective Constable Jodie Turton of Nottinghamshire Police.

“Hancock became obsessed with the woman, and his repeated threats left her fearing for her and her children’s safety.

“He then committed a brutal assault with a baseball bat. The victim was lucky not to suffer more serious injuries.

“I’m pleased this dangerous individual is now off the streets. I hope this sentence brings comfort to the victims.”
