Woman Jailed for Running Over Partner in Margate

A Margate woman has been locked up after deliberately running over her partner during a late-night row.

Crash in Margate High Street

Kimberly Lawson, 29, from Vicarage Lane, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on 4 September 2020. She pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The court heard that on 24 August 2019, Lawson and her partner were out in Margate town centre when they argued. Just after 3am on the High Street, she got into her Peugeot and drove at him.

A witness recalled hearing the victim shout “stop!” before Lawson struck him. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be airlifted to a London hospital for emergency treatment.

Speeding and Recklessness Revealed

Lawson was arrested at the scene. She told officers she didn’t mean to hit him.

But investigators say Lawson was driving between 39 and 45 mph in a 30 mph zone. She was charged and later sentenced.

Jail Time and Driving Ban for Lawson

Lawson was sentenced to one year in prison and a three-and-a-half-year driving ban. She must pass an extended driving test before she can get her licence back.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Tristan Kluibenschadl said: “Lawson’s reckless actions resulted in her victim receiving life-threatening injuries and he was fortunate to survive.

“A car in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon and the custodial sentence imposed by the court will offer Lawson time to reflect on her actions.”
