Woman Coughs on Cops, Claims She Wants to Infect Them with COVID
A 36-year-old woman from Littlehampton is behind bars after launching a vile attack on two police officers—coughing in their faces and declaring she wanted to pass on COVID-19.
Lisa Scopes’ Shocking Outburst
Lisa Scopes, who lives in West Way, Wick, was sentenced to six months in prison at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday 19 August. She admitted to threatening behaviour and assaulting the officers called to her home on 29 March.
The officers arrived amid reports of a violent dispute. They found Scopes heavily intoxicated, abusive, and openly hostile. She repeatedly coughed at one officer before being arrested. En route to the station, she coughed in both officers’ faces and even blew air out of her nose, telling them she hoped they caught the virus.
Officers Test Negative After Sick Attack
Scopes had been self-isolating and claimed she had a temperature, though it was never confirmed she was infected. Thankfully, both officers later tested negative for COVID-19.
Chief Inspector Condemns ‘Despicable’ Act
“Whatever the circumstances, being assaulted is not part of our officers’ jobs and will not be tolerated,” said Chief Inspector Jon Carter.
“They were trying to help her in a volatile situation and keep people safe. Scopes’ threats and attempt to infect them were despicable. It’s good the court has made that clear.”
