Toddler’s Tragic Death: Carer Found Guilty of Manslaughter
Leila Borrington, 23, claimed the toddler fell from a chair and hit his head. But paramedics found three-year-old Harvey Borrington unresponsive on 7 August last year.
Harvey later died in hospital from serious head injuries.
Medical Experts Uncover Shocking Truth
Experts revealed Harvey’s injuries were caused by repeated blows, not a one-off fall. They also found older injuries, including a broken arm.
Borrington’s Disturbing Actions Before Help Arrived
Borrington, who is not Harvey’s mother but was caring for him at her home in Jacksdale, didn’t call an ambulance. Instead, she filmed Harvey lying motionless on the floor and sent the video to his father, who was out at the time.
Guilty Verdict Delivered After Lengthy Trial
At Nottingham Crown Court, Borrington denied ever hitting Harvey. But on Tuesday 28 February, a jury convicted her of manslaughter. She was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm and assault. She was cleared of murder and two other assault charges.
She will be sentenced on 16 March.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said: “This was a tragic incident that shocked the local community. Harvey was a much-loved little boy cherished by his parents and wider family.”
“As a police officer, I am pleased with the jury’s decision but acutely aware it offers no consolation to those left behind. This has been a very lengthy and difficult investigation, and I thank everyone involved.”
